CSM REVIEW and combo PART 1 HQ

I read some good reviews on the web, but my opinion diverged a little bit, so I decided to write my own review of the CSM codex in order to help new players.

Units will be rate by their capacity to be competitive.

***** super competitive
****   challenging
***     solid choice
**       not first choice
*         not recommended

HQ

Lords of Chaos
A good economic HQ, he can be a very challenging foe. Less resilient than his loyalist brother but more fierce in attack. Consider to invest in a Demon weapon and in a mount.

Favorite combo: Lord mark of khorne on juggernaut, axe of blind fury, melta bomb, gift of mutation (optional extra) or motorcycle mark of  Nurgle Black mace, melta bombs.

evaluation *****

Chaos Sorcerer
Much more a offensive unit than a defensive unit, malleable with a wound and a attack less, is not fearless, but can be on a motorcycle or get terminator armor.

Combo: psyker lv 3 undivided (the cheapest possible), or terminal armor, sigil power axe psyker lv3.
Favorite combo: in termi armour with chosen of khorne in LR (really nasty but expensive) . You can try to get invisibility and cast it on your LR or go for Biomancy trying get Iron arms or Endurance. I prefer to go bio, at my opinion you have 1out of 3 chance to get a good spell, enfeeble, iron arm or endurance, than telepathy where the only one you really want is invisibility and for the other spell most of army have high command or counter lack of command (I dunno why)

evaluation ****

Daemon Prince
More expensive and more powerful than before, unfortunately also more fragile than before. He Can fully enjoy the black mace because he AP 2. A real magnet shooting (shame but understandable)

Combo staff: daemon of Tzeentch or Khorne with the black mace, wings, power armor. Can serve as a firing platform with spell and brand of skalabraxx is not recommanded). My best guess only power armour wings MoT keep him cheap as possible you will lose him

his T5 will be lethal for him
Rating: **

Warpsmith
A beautiful model made for a defensive list, not expensive, but I still find it difficult to see an effective way to play. Personal opinion thematic rather than competitive.

Combo staff: behind the lines with vindicator and defiler. To be use in daemon engine list

evaluation *

Dark apostle
Interesting unit (especially in a conversion way, the base model is so ugly, Mr. I got caught in the toilet paper). Interesting rule, but quickly replaced by a lord of chaos or a unique character that will give your fearless cultist plus a kick to them in CC that the apostle does not do, but his passive will.

Staff Combo: in cultist squad or possess

Abbadon
A terrible warlord who cant be match easily in W40k. It transforms chosen troupe and gives preferred enemy it is nice with plasma units. His lack of mobility it is severely adverse. It seems design for a game over 2k pts.

Combo staff: With chosen slaneesh because Abbadon can enjoy any icon. put him in a land raider, or cheapest terminator of slaneesh combi-plasma icon. Or with obliterator of nurgle giving them fearless and a really dangerous shooting skill (warlord Trait).(WTF twin link bolter can he even sign for inferno bolts at the QM?)

evaluation ****

Huron
Perfect in a thematic, Undivided, he is probably one of the most profitable HQ for the points cost . His free magic and his wargear make him a good choice, but don't forget he can be instant killed. His warlord trait is by far one of the best you could wish. He will often be compare to Kharn but the only real difference is kharn offensive skill versus defensive skill form Huron.

Combo staff: With cultists for his fearless and magic that can strengthen and ability in hand-to-hand combat.

evaluation *****

Fabius Bile
Used in a thematic Undivided, he is probably one of the less expensive special HQ if you deduct the cost of an icon of revenge. His lack of good AP in CC (and shooting) is sorely default, liabilities remains thematic rather than competitive.

Staff Combo: With cultists for his fearless, and a big squad of s5 fearless marine, if you want to swarm.

evaluation *

Kharn the Betrayer (or the man who never misses )
Used in a theme of Khorne is a live demon prince trapped in a human body with the almost same strike force plus the anger I guess. His  warlord traits is a good one. It has a liability that is not negligible against the Psyker .

Combo staff: With cultists for his fearless in rush up, you can add Huron to push Kharn in infiltrate with all its cultist; p

evaluation *****

Ahriman
Can be used in a  Tzeentch thematic is one of the most powerful psyker in the galaxy, (but cant use divination wtf!!) in attack he can give a unit a boost to fire and thus offset the lack of special weapon of a single Thousand sons squad, it is essentially remain the same that before, but it gives an interesting warlord trait especially for an fire power based army .

Combo staff: With thousand Sons flank attack.

evaluation **

Typhus
Ah Typhus by far one of my preferredhigh cost may be, but offset by a myriad of troops at a lower cost, with 4 PV T5 FNP, terminator armor and a weapon it can eat soul, he's relentless especially in a squad of 35 zombies. Its only flaw it his warlord trait.(beware to being smash by MC or walker in CC)

Combo staff: With zombies to everything and lock them hard

evaluation *****

Lucius The Eternal
Ah, Lucius I would love him I really like the model, but he is barely decentHe has a doom siren, he is still good for his cost, in a noise marine thematic he can work I see him enjoy the feel no pain and boost the a wall of sound. It is suppose to be the master of the duel, but I have not had the chance to test it.(I doubt I will match his equivalent point cost)

Combo staff: With 20x marine noises

evaluation **

Finally a blog dedicated to CSM, I will be following your blog, it is very refreshing to find a blog that try to help the CSM community rather than saying they are junk.

I love my CSM and find them fun to play. Winnign with this army is much more rewarding than with my IG...

As for a CSM Lord, i love the Jugger Lord with Axe of Blind fury. When accompanied by Spawns and a sorcerer on bike, they can be a game changer...Especially if the sorcerer can get his hands on invisibility.

Great read.

Thank you for your comment your right invisibility is awesome but you can be unlucky and get only crappy spell lord is a more reliable choice but 2 of them are great and funny
